What I learned about To Boot New York

Last weekend To Boot was in town for a trunk show at the store. I want to share some of the things that I learned about the brand that really sold me on the shoes.

  • Everything is made in small factories in Italy. To Boot has the exclusive rights to their factories in North America. Nothing is mass produced by a major factory.
  • No glue is used in making the shoes. Ever. It’s all hand-stitched.
  • To Boot doesn’t advertise. They rely on their product, not social media. The brand got its break at Bergdorf Goodman and has been growing ever since.
  • Their sales reps will make an effort to pair shoes with what a store already carries. They want to help customers put looks together and really find shoes that work with their wardrobe also.
  • Their suedes are treated and you shouldn’t be afraid to wear them right away.
  • The leather is all cut by hand and stays on a last for 10-14 days to make sure the shoe is going to keep its form. Most companies leave their shoes on a last for half of that time.
  • Burnishing and monk straps are a part of their heritage, not just a trend. To Boot has done it from the beginning and will inevitably find new variations, but they’re not just following trends.
