Coming Up – Oxxford Trunk Show

This Thursday, February 28th at our downtown location, Oxxford is coming.

Not all clothing is created equally. While some brands rely on major factories and machinery, what’s best about our brands is that a lot of them are still created by craftsmen and have that something special that makes them worth the price.

Oxxford clothing is hand made in Chicago. They’re the only manufacturer left in the United States that still tailors suits by hand. Their master tailor, Rocco Giavannangelo is nothing short of brilliant, and you’ll have to stop by the trunk show to see some of his craftsmanship.

I want to give you some highlights from Michigan Avenue Magazine‘s interview with Rocco, so that you can get a feel for this guy’s hard work and passion for the brand.

Oxxford’s master tailor, Rocco Giovannangelo, a 50-year veteran of the garment industry, oversees every last pattern, stitch, and detail. “We are the best,” says Giovannangelo, 72, in his thick Italian accent. He hails from Sperlonga, Italy, where he started his career as a tailor when he was just five years old.

Some little-known facts about the construction of each custom-made piece: A thousand hand stitches make up each lapel—which means the artisans have complete control over the tension of each stitch, building memory into the fabric with needle and thread.

Nothing passes through the shop without Rocco’s seal of approval—he’s in charge of manufacturing, designing, quality control, and training new employees. “They don’t pay me because I’m beautiful,” Giovannangelo says, laughing. “They pay me because I have skill. I know what I’m doing, and I’m proud of who I am.”

Still not convinced? Watch this little video, and then come judge for yourself in person this Thursday.
