While you can definitely be too old to trick or treat, you’re never too old to dress up. I’ve rounded up my favorite fashion icon costume ideas to inspire you and let you know what you’ll need. These costumes are great, because you probably still have a few items hanging around in your closet that will work.
Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s:
What you’ll need: A black shift dress, long black gloves, a jeweled headband, pearls, and a long cigarette holder.
Twiggy:
What you’ll need: a bright shift dress, dangly earrings, a short blonde wig, a lot of eyeliner.
Bonus: Here’s a tip on how to do your makeup:
Princess Diana:
What you’ll need: an 80s dress (preferably with a plunging neckline), a tiara, a bold necklace, a short blonde wing (I recommend going the extra step and cutting some 80s bangs on it).
Cher from Clueless:
What you’ll need: A plaid miniskirt, a white button down shirt, a blazer, white knee high stockings, a hair straightener, and a few of your favorite shopping bags.
Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City:
What you’ll need: A pink tanktop, a white tutu, strappy shoes, and a blonde curly wig.
Kate Middleton and Prince George:
What you’ll need: an all cream emsemble, a hat to match, a babydoll in a lacy frock. I also encourage your significant other to take the part of Prince William.
Now for the guys!
James Dean:
What you’ll need: A leather jacket, dirty jeans, hair gel, and a cigarette.
David Bowie:
What you’ll need: A mullet wig, face paint, flare pants. Shirt optional but not necessary.
Andy Warhol:
What you’ll need: A white wig, a black turtleneck, slim pants, classic sunglasses, and a Campbell’s can to carry around.
Hope this helps and some of you will try to make your own costumes this year. Good luck!
