Groundhog Day: Looking for the Shadow

What does a sleepy, furry marmot have to do with seasonal change? Absolutely everything! Tomorrow at sunrise, Punxsutawney Phil will once again appear at Gobbler’s Knob in the Pennsylvania Wilds to make his annual prediction. This is the 130th anniversary of Groundhog Day, which is very important in the fashion world.

Tomorrow, you will find 20,000+ in attendance and millions watching on television or the web looking for the shadow. But why?

Punxsutawney Phil

Groundhog Day marks the midway point between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox. The tradition continues that this day is used to help determine how many weeks of winter might be left. If Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter and he returns to his hole. If he does not see his shadow, he will stay above ground meaning spring is on the way!

To get inspired for the possibility of warm weather, below are two items I am dying to wear this spring.

Colored Denim:

J Brand Suvi Utility Crop

This distressed pink lace skinny jean by J Brand is my number one spring essential! This high-rise style is crafted from garment dye Photo Ready denim with contemporary features. This military-inspired look is highlighted by button up detailing at the hem and brushed silver shank buttons. My absolutely favorite!

Embroidered Dresses:

Vince Embroidered V-Neck Dress

This dress is just perfect for any spring occasion! Vince really knows how to make a girl feel beautiful and comfortable at the same time. The artisanal embroidery offers textural interest while creating a subtle sense of layering. It is super relaxed but still gives a feminine edge. I cannot wait to get mine!

Now that we are thinking of spring and looking for the shadow, let’s hope that Phil does not see his shadow tomorrow!
