Ringing in the New Year: Making Style Resolutions

So you’re not the resolution-making type? No problem! Imagine this… The countdown to midnight commences and the ball begins to drop. Instantly, it is midnight and our internal reset buttons have been powered to make major changes for the New Year. Now, let’s talk about something more bearable. Small adjustments actually do have the power to change the way we think about making style resolutions for the long run. Here are some guidelines to get you on your way for 2016.

No matter what the New Year has in store, your style will always be a reflection of you. Making style resolutions will help you take control of your closet, make you feel empowered, and could be quite fun in the process. Plus, it is very simple!

Establish Your Look:

Everyone is able to say, “Oh, I like that top” or “that dress is so pretty” because we are embedded with preferences, but the key is to have a look. This will take your style to another level. It might not happen overnight, but making this style resolution will get the ball rolling.

Start to establish your look by seeking out inspiration from celebrities whose looks are part of them. A good example is Taylor Swift with her never without a red lip routine. When you are out shopping for red lipstick, instantly, you think of Taylor.

Once you have some inspiration, then the soul searching begins. From there, it may take some time, trend trying and research, but the best part about making this style resolution is how fun it is to experiment with new things.

Investment-Piece Game Plan:

Stop lusting over that Carlos Falchi handbag, those Escada silk pants, or a Cartier bracelet. These dream-ticket items on your list could be yours if you start planning now.

Divide your dream item’s price by 12 and put that amount away into a savings account each month. Don’t have the extra cash to put aside? Come up with creative solutions to save this money like skipping a monthly mani, making some cash by selling an unworn item in your closet, or skipping that daily Starbucks coffee. Even if it takes all year to afford that investment piece, you know you will wear it for a lifetime.

Always Remember the Basics:

Whether it’s the staple piece in your wardrobe or just used as support, the basics are essential! Make a resolution to replace any camis, ripped jeans, or nude heels that you have worn to bits. Replace them with basics that can stand up to years of wear.

By making these three style resolutions, you will be happier and more defined in your fashion ability. As this year ends, I would like to wish everyone a happy new year full of happiness, health, and success. 2015 has been an amazing year and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for 2016!
