Regarding our Discovery Channel experience…

Saturday, August 7th, was not your typical day at Larrimor’s.

At 10am, we were introduced to the Discovery Channel documentary Director and his very cool, camera crew.

At 10:30 am, our “star” arrived. Many of you may be familiar with Reese Randall’s name or face – Reese is the Managing Editor of Pittsburgh Magazine. Reese was asked to share her story in a documentary about overcoming the obstacle of Adult Onset Diabetes.

Reese lives a full, fun, complicated life – juggling the roles of Mom, Wife, Daughter, Sister, and Managing Editor of a monthly magazine. If you know, Reese, you know that she is one of the loveliest, kindest, most pleasant people that you could ever meet.

Reese never mentioned that she had Diabetes, until she asked us to be part of her special project. I remember when Reese just started at Pittsburgh Magazine; it was the same time that I moved home to Pittsburgh. Throughout the years, we became one of Reese’s many raving fans – so we are justifiably
proud to see her accomplish so much!

11:00 Am – Our role was to provide the backdrop to showcase just one small part of the work that Reese does when preparing for a fashion shoot.

We brought in a lovely model to show off the clothing, met Reese’s sister (who is equally fabulous), and even had one of the Larrimor’s team (Mr. Bentley Hicks) play the role of Fashion Photographer.

2pm – The Discovery Channel team packs up to move on to the next location – Reese’s home. While our nerves are calmed, we know that the work is far from finished for Reese and the film crew.

The team filmed for about three hours and fun was had by all. The Discovery Channel team was great – they were pleasant, organized, and knew what they needed to accomplish.

Our only disclaimer, is that after all the fun we had – we learned that our few hours could end up edited to 20-40 seconds on the air. We won’t know until we see the Discovery Channel on October 2nd. No matter what happens, we loved being part of Reese’s big day!
