Model Status: What to Wear

Being too tall is never something that I have had to worry about since I am barely over five feet. Most of my friends tower over me like skyscrapers. “Go high or go home” has always been our shoe mantra ever since we’ve been able to walk in heels. This is especially true for my six feet something friends.

Shopping was always a constant struggle for them, but I told them to embrace it. Fits for them were never quite right: sleeves showed too much wrist and jeans left their ankles swinging. It was not a good look. I have always wished that I was taller because there are certain things that I cannot pull off that I love to outfit my model status friends in.

The Jumpsuit. Tall ladies rejoice because this is the ideal look for you and all tall women. This clean silhouette compliments long bodies and is adored by the likes of celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence. This should be your go-to look for occasions and evening wear.

The Maxi-Dress. While tall women had issues with miniskirts, the maxi-dress was pretty much made for you. These floor length numbers are not only a must-have for your vacation wardrobe, but they can be city appropriate too. Pair these with a summer sandal or espadrilles.

The Suit. I urge you to invest in a pantsuit, whether it is from a more accessible retailer like Express or from a more luxury brand like Escada. Tailoring is the quickest way to upgrade your look and instantly be taken more seriously. To keep it fun, try rolling up the sleeves or wearing the jacket over a T-shirt.
