Let’s talk about Black Friday.

I want to know. Did you shop on Black Friday?

"black friday line" "black friday shopping"

The whole thing doesn’t have any appeal to me, and it seems that other shoppers are starting to feel the same way. Sales were down a reported 11% this year. You know what? I think that’s just fine.

The deals are offered too frequently. As a small business, it’s not easy to compete with big box stores constantly slashing their prices and it’s nice to see that they’re finally having some repercussions for devaluing their brands. On the flip side, Small Business Saturday was a success and 75% of people who shopped that day reported that they came out to support the movement.

Consumer behavior is changing. More people are shopping online and with deals offered earlier, many were doing it on Thanksgiving day when they were in a turkey coma or waiting for their pies to bake. A little sad to think that they were buying sweaters rather than hanging out with family, but hey, it’s the world we’re living in.

With more money, why fight for a steal? Waiting in line in the cold isn’t really worth saving a few bucks when you’re flush. Analysts think that it might actually be a good sign that consumers aren’t fighting over the deepest discounts and instead choosing to spend the extra dough for their gifts.

So, what do you think? Is Black Friday soon going to be a thing of the past?
