Dakota: This is Frye’s most signature and iconic leather. This leather is produced in the United States as a chrome tanned leather and features a unique technique which creates a “crunch” effect.
Oiled Suede: This particular suede is perfect for casual footwear. Oil is added in to the tannage to give the suede a nice drag, and hand feel.
Smooth Full Grain: This is a classic, vegetable tanned leather, tanned in Italy. Due to the vegetable tanning, the natural leather reacts well with burnishing done at the factories, which enhances and darkens the color and builds shine, much like with natural vachetta leather.
Smooth Vintage: This rich and oiled leather is tanned in Italy and is one of the most versatile leathers at Frye. There is a high oil content in the leather which gives it an added pull up effect and supple hand feel.
Soft Vintage: This is a lightweight, glovey, chrome tanned leather. It takes on different finishes beautifully, including washing, antiquing and burnishing, each one resulting in a very different aesthetic.
Stone Wash: We finish some of our footwear by placing them in large wooden drums, along with stones and lava rocks to create a weathered and worn look. Once the stone washing is complete, the natural color of the leather shows through and adds dimension and tonality to the leather.
Washed Antique: This is an Italian and vegetable tanned leather that has a high oil content giving it a rich hand feel. Once the footwear is lasted, we then wash the leather to give it a more casual and well worn look.
