Fashion Hacks 101

Whether it’s your favorite pumps with an unfortunate scratch or a spaghetti stain on your new vintage white denim, sooner or later we are all bound to encounter some type of catastrophe. To make my life easier (and hopefully yours too!), here is a list of little fashion hacks to live by.

BLISTERS: Rub deodorant on your soles to prevent blisters from painfully tight flats or sandals.

BUTTON-DOWN SHIRTS: When ironing a button-down shirt, flip it inside out to easily iron over the button side.

COLLARS: Use a hair straightener to iron your collar.

DENIM: Place jeans in a zip lock bag and put them in the freezer for 24 hours. This will remove all bacteria and odors without contouring the shape of your jeans.

DEODORANT: To quickly get rid of deodorant stains, rub them with a pair of jeans.

PATENT LEATHER: Windex can be used to safely restore the shine to patent leather shoes.

SCRATCHES: Get scratches out of leather by rubbing a small amount of moisturizer into the scratch with a Q-tip.

SHOES: Break in shoes by putting them on with socks and blasting your feet with a hairdryer.

SIZING: You can tell if a pair of pants will fit without trying them on by wrapping the waist around your neck. If the pants are your size, the jeans will wrap just once around your neck without overlap.

STAINS: To remove an oil stain, mark the spot with baby powder and let it sit overnight. By morning, the stain should be gone.

SUEDE: To clean dirt off suede, remove the crust from a piece of bread and allow it to become stale. Gently rub the stain with the edge of the stale bread and it will disappear.

SWEATERS: This is the same concept as the denim. Place your sweater in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer for a minimum of three hours. it will stop the sweater from shedding in the future.

TEES: Make your t-shirts soft by leaving them in salt water for about three days and then wash them normally. This will give them such a cozy, vintage feel.

TIGHTS: Spray tights with hairspray to prevent runs.

TINY ITEMS: Put a stocking or nylon over a vacuum cleaner hose to find tiny items like earring backs.

WINE: Remove a red win stain by gently blotting with a cloth soaked in white wine.
