Continuous Inspiration: Coco Chanel

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. -Coco Chanel

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born in 1883 in a charity hospital run by the Sisters of Providence. Her childhood was not easy by any means. Her mother died when she was 12 years old and her father sent her to live at the convent of Aubazine, which ran an orphanage in France. Despite her rough start, Coco Chanel turned out to be one of the most influential designers of her time.

Coco Chanel is a continuous inspiration to all women. She is proof that anyone can do anything that they set their minds to. No matter a person’s background, they can be successful and prosperous as long as they have a positive outlook on life. It is all about heart. If you set your heart and mind to something, you are able to conquer the world.

Her label and designs have endured the test of time. She continues to inspire all women by understanding what is going on around her, by listening to the needs of the people who will wear her clothes, by staying true to her vision, and mostly by being humble and grateful. Coco Chanel revolutionized the fashion industry while impacting many lives in the process. Her legacy is so great, that her logo lives on lampposts lining the streets of London.

Even a woman who has never bought an original Chanel piece is sure to own something that was inspired by the iconic designer.  From her little black dress, to the trousers, and even the sailor tops, Coco Chanel has done it all. She had a love for categorically large costume jewelry and the Chanel suit. This skirt suit with a collarless, cardigan-like jacket has influenced many designers, but the design is attributed to Chanel.
