A fashion girl’s guide to camping…

Let’s face it – spiders, snakes and bugs are not for many of us. They look best in children’s nursery books or turned into cute animation characters named Hopper. Unfortunately, there will come a time in every girl’s life when she is forced to go camping whether it be with family, friends, or just to see a certain band play in a field. We’ve all been there and it’s not a good day. Especially for us girls, who rely on electricity to keep us looking like, well, girls!

I had my first experience with camping over Memorial Day weekend. I remember telling my father that I was going camping and he raised an eyebrow, laughed at me, and asked where I was actually planning on going for the night. He reminded me, “You hate bugs and trees and dirt. You do know that camping happens outside, right?” Even with his warning, I couldn’t see straight. To me, it was an excuse to go shopping and buy “camping gear”. Instantly, I turned to Google and started looking for flannels, jean shorts, and pink Timberland boots.

While hate is a rather strong word, its true that I am not what you would call an “outdoorsy” girl. I am actually the complete opposite. I am certain that I am both allergic to mosquitoes and genetically engineered to attract them. I spend most of my days in dresses or skirts and prefer Jimmy Choo to L. L. Bean. And still, I would definitely consider camping again with a few changes.

It is called glamping. It is a fusion of glamour and camping, essentially satisfying cravings for the outdoors and the desire for a nice glass of wine and a comfortable bed. It is about creating an atmosphere that is romantic and cozy that simultaneously makes the irritations of nature disappear (peace out bugs), while highlighting the beauty of nature (hello lantern lit forest). Now that we are ready to give it another go, what should I pack? The most important thing for glamping is the fashion behind it, I mean come on if you didn’t take a good selfie, then you probably didn’t even go camping. Here is a quick guide of what to pack for your next outdoor adventure.

It all starts with the boots and you build your look from there. Why boots? You need them to walk on dusty roads, to ride the quads, and just to look super cute. Also, if a horse steps on your foot sneakers will not protect your perfect pedicure. The best boots to get are short ones by Frye. They are ideal for riding and look great with dresses and shorts. Do you see a theme with glamping yet? Functional and cute!

Sunglasses and hats are essential for any camping adventure. The sun is intense and hats do more than look good, they also protect your skin. I always thought that sunglasses were on the packing list for fishing because it was bright out, but it turns out you can accidentally get a hook in the eye, so they’re really for safety. My favorite sunglasses are by Randolph and made in America. And we cannot forget the most important thing…. Dresses! After all, this is glamping. There is always a reason to pull on a sundress, a pair of boots and a cute necklace.
